CBD is one of at least 113 naturally-occurring compounds (‘phytocannabinoids’) found in the Cannabis Sativa L. plant. CBD is distinct from THC, the intoxicating compound that produces the famous high.
Amongst other cannabinoids, flavonoids and terpenes, CBD (aka Cannabidiol) is extracted from the flower of the cannabis plant to form a raw paste. This extract is then mixed with fatty carrier bases, such as hemp oil (produced from hemp seeds) or MCT (produced from Coconut), allowing it to be ingested.
CBD is safe, natural and healthy. How can CBD help me?
CBD can be taken as part of balanced lifestyle in order to help the body achieve homeostasis, its natural state of equilibrium.
We’d love to say more, but the UK’s Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has issued strict guidelines about what can, and can’t, be said.
We welcome the increasing body of peer-reviewed research that sheds more and more light on the psychological and physiological effects of CBD. We recommend you conduct your own research via trusted sources such as the World Health Organisation, Harvard Medical School and the BMJ.How does CBD work?
Cannabinoids already occur naturally with your body and CBD works with your body's Endocannabinoid System (ECS). The ECS manages stress, immune response and helps maintain homeostasis (aka ‘dynamic equilibrium’) across areas like appetite, sleep, mood and pain.
The ECS is regulated by Cannabinoid receptors located all over the body (predominantly in the brain). These receptors, known as CB1 and CB2, are affected by your body’s own Endocannabinoids, as well as Cannabinoids (e.g. CBD) found in plants.
Plant-based Cannabinoids interact with your ECS in two ways: the first is by directly influencing your CB1 and CB2 receptors (though unlike THC, it doesn’t trigger the receptor, instead it binds to it, modifying its ability to bind with other Cannabinoids); the second by slowing down the rate at which your enzymes break down your Endocannabinoids, giving your ECS a little boost. Is it legal?
Yes. The Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 classifies THC as a controlled substance. CBD, chemically distinct from THC, is not a controlled substance under the Act.What goes into your products?
Only the most natural, pure ingredients farmed as nature intended: everything we sell is free from pesticides, GMOs and harmful chemicals, and uses the minimum number of ingredients. No additives or filler or ‘augmentations’ you might find in other products.
What does ‘full spectrum’ mean?
Full spectrum (also called whole plant) CBD means we extract all of the plant’s Cannabinoids, including CBD. The alternative, called Isolate, just extracts CBD alone.
Full spectrum is the preferred option, as it allows more elements of the plant to work together – a synergistic reaction called the ‘entourage effect’. CBD Isolate doesn’t have this benefit.Which product is right for me?
Full Spectrum Oil
Our favourite CBD oil. We keep it as close to the plant's natural state as possible, giving you the maximum natural health benefit. It can be taken quickly in moments when calm is needed, or used regularly to support your health and wellbeing. Find out more here.
THC Free CBD Oil
Designed to gently restore your body’s ECS. We’ve developed this for people, like professional sportswomen and sportsmen, whose job requires them to avoid even trace levels of THC, while still containing some of the flavonoids, terpenes and cannabinoids of full spectrum CBD. It can be taken as and when you need it, or every day. Find out more here.
How do I take it?
CBD can be ingested in several ways, but we like to keep it simple:
- 5-10 drops under the tongue (aka ‘sublingually’), leave there for a minute before swallowing. This allows the CBD to enter your bloodstream via the mouth’s mucous membranes, and gives a slightly quicker onset than via your stomach and gut.
- In food, such as our delicious CBD-infused dark chocolate.
- Topically – applied directly for healthy skin, or targeting specific joints and muscles.
N.B. The European Industrial Hemp Association (EIHA) have advised not to exceed 160-200mg a day. However the Food Standards Agency (FSA) in the UK have recently advised to keep it under 70mg in a 24hour period.5% or 10%?
We recommend starting out with the 5% oil. Then you can gradually build up to 10% if you need to. Everyone’s tolerance is different, so it’s all about finding the right balance for you.How can I be sure your CBD is pure?
You don’t have to take our word for it. We get all our ingredients audited by independent laboratories using High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) equipment. As well as a full terpene profile we get everything tested for microbiological contamination, heavy metals and pesticides.
You’ll find the lab reports for our core ingredients here:
Full Spectrum Cannabinoid Profile (raw extract)
THC Free Cannabinoid Profile (raw extract)
As you can see, our CBD products contain no nasty surprises. Just pure, natural products from trusted producers.
Why is the oil not always the same?
Extraction combines art with science which means that there can be some variance in the flavour of the oil. This is especially true of the whole plant extracts. Is it addictive?
No. CBD is not addictive. Is it safe?
Yes. It is increasingly used therapeutically, and not a single CBD overdose has been recorded in the supporting medical literature. What’s the difference between CBD, Cannabis, Hemp and Marijuana?
Cannabis is the umbrella term for a plant species that includes both Marijuana (high in THC) and Hemp (low in THC). CBD is a naturally-occurring compound found in all Cannabis plants. Can I travel with your products?
Whilst you may not experience any problems, we advise against travelling abroad with any of our products. The rules from country to country are still unclear, and not always correctly interpreted by customs officers. Why does my product taste different this time?
Whilst we try to maintain the consistency of our oils, we employ very gentle extraction process which keeps the product as close to the plant's natural state as possible. Therefore this means the taste, colour and smell can vary from batch to batch.
We ensure the CBD content remains within an acceptable variance, however the levels of chlorophyll, terpenes and other phytocannabinoids may vary. This is especially true of our CO2-extracted full spectrum oil.Are there any side effects?
Whilst it is very rare to feel any side effects, symptoms can include nausea, lethargy and headaches. Can I take with prescription medication?
Take medical advice before combining with medicines or other treatments. Can I take your products if I am pregnant, breastfeeding or under 18?
Due to the current lack of research, we advise against taking our products if you are under 18, pregnant or breastfeeding.Any more questions?
